Matzene Art Collection

In the 1950's, Richard Gordon Matzene, a world renowned photographer, art dealer and world traveler bequeathed a substantial part of his collection of American Western art and Oriental art to the Ponca City Library.

During his career, Matzene maintained studios in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and India. He was instrumental in the planning of the Woolaroc Museum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Matzene had a close relationship with Birger Sandzen of the Prairie Print Makers, and with Nicholai Fechin, the Russian born painter, both of whom are represented in this collection. The collection is on display year round.
