The Ponca City Police Department is unique in that it is one of only ten police departments in the State of Oklahoma that has successfully met all the criteria to become fully accredited by the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation and Professional Standards Program.  This program, sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police, is intended to provide Oklahoma law enforcement agencies a venue to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in all that they do; certification assures that they meet standards and best practices for efficient and effective operations. 


Departments that seek accreditation have every aspect of their operations scrutinized in depth.  There are multiple levels of certification, and since February of 2005, the Ponca City Police Department has successfully met the criteria for “Accreditation,” the highest level awarded.  Every three years, the Department is re-assessed to determine if it still qualifies for Accreditation.
