Community Services:  Elder Safety

Many of our citizens over the age of 60 years live alone. Some have relatives that live elsewhere or have little contact with friends. It is very important to the Department to respond to calls involving senior citizens in an expedient manner. Our goal is to be able to help you as quickly as we can, and having specific information on file will help us to better provide the assistance you may need.

For example, it would be helpful for us to know the names of your next of kin, your family doctors, medication that you have been taking, your age, and whom you would like to have contacted in the case of an emergency. Sometimes people in crisis are unable to tell us about themselves and precious minutes are lost trying to secure necessary information to help.

The Ponca City Police Department maintains a database of safety information on citizens over the age of 60.  This is not an attempt to pry into your personal lives; rather it is an effort to assure that we may better serve your needs in case of emergency.

The information we receive from you will be placed on file and made available to officers who regularly patrol areas where you live. Then, if an emergency arises, the officer will have some information to assist your needs. He can also direct extra patrol in areas where it has been requested, especially for those of you that live alone or have special needs.

Registration is voluntary, but we hope that you will choose to participate.
