Community Services:  Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is an effort designed to help neighbors become more aware of what is going on in their neighborhoods so that they can rightly respond to things that are happening.   Police officers can assist in the development and implementation of a Neighborhood Watch group.   The main goal is to get people to care about one another again, as neighbors used to do in the past.   People who know the families in their neighborhood can recognize quickly when something is wrong and when help is needed.  Neighborhood watch is not so much a formal program as it is an effort to get people to pay attention to one another, to help one another and thereby to help their neighborhoods remain safe places in which to live and raise their families.   Neighborhood Watch groups provide participants with a feeling of community, helping to increase a sense of security and partnership with those living close by. The Neighborhood Watch motto is, “We look out for each other.”

If you are interested in learning more or in trying to start a Neighborhood Watch group in your area, please contact Captain Don Bohon at the PD at 763-8002.
