Department Mission: The Street Department will provide proper maintenance of streets, alleys, drainage systems, parking lots, snow and ice removal, and assist other departments that request support. The department is responsible for the maintenance of 173 miles of streets, 71 miles of alleys, 25 miles of storm water drainage systems, and 22 city drives and parking lots.

 

 

 

Fiscal 2008 Accomplishments:

              v Fog sealed 10 lane miles of city streets.

v Installed the concrete pad for Dan Moran Skate Park using 175 yards of concrete, 810 tons of fill material, 692 man hours and 383 equipment hours.

v Repaired all utility cuts to date using 105 tons of asphalt and 284.25 yards of concrete. Completed 100% of all utility cuts within 30 days of receiving the work order.

v Built new drive approach and berm for the new PC complex.

v Cleaned and swept 21,758 blocks of city streets.

v Replaced 1500 feet of curb and gutter.

v Maintained city streets using 446 yards of concrete and 438 tons of asphalt.

v Removed and replaced the West Highland bridge using 196 yards of concrete and 1,248 man hours and 593 equipment hours.

v Completed 14 lane miles of chip and seal.

v Cleaned 35,875 catch basins and marked 50 storm drains for the compliance program.

v Crack sealed 26 lane miles to date.

Fiscal 2009

Objectives:                                v Continue the crack seal program with a projected 20 lane  miles scheduled for 08/09.

v Continue to maintain all city drainage structures.

v Continue the curb and gutter replacement with a projected target of 1500 feet.

v Continue to repair all city utility cuts in a timely manner within a maximum of 30 days from receiving the work order.

v Continue to maintain all city alleys.

v Fog seal 14 lane miles of city streets.

v Chip and seal 12 miles of city streets.

v Continue to participate in the NPDES phase II permit requirements.

Street & Alley Fund

Department Mission:  The Street & Alley Fund will utilize funds received from the State which are derived from County Motor Vehicle Tax and State Gasoline Tax to be used for the maintenance of streets, alleys, and street lighting.

Fiscal 2008 Accomplishments: v Provided funding for 26 lane miles of crack sealing on city streets.

v Provided funding for 1500 feet of curb and gutter replacement.

v Provided funding for to complete all necessary repairs to city streets using 438 tons of asphalt and 446 yards of concrete.

v Provided funding for 10 lane miles of fog seal surface treatment on city streets.

v Provided funding for the chip and seal program completing 14 lane miles.

Fiscal 2009 Objectives:           v Continue to provide funding for the fog seal and chip and seal programs.

v Continue to fund the curb and gutter replacement program.

v Continue to fund repairs to all city streets and alleys.

v Continue to provide funding for all necessary street utility repairs incurred.

v Continue to provide funding for the crack seal program.
