City Commission Elections

The City of Ponca City is governed by a Board of five "at-large" Commissioners, with one designated as the Mayor. Each commissioner serves a three-year term. Elections take place the first Tuesday in March of each year, alternating the election of a Mayor one year, two Commissioners the next year, and two more Commissioners the following year. Elections are nonpartisan.

The City Commission elects an Acting Mayor by majority ballot at the beginning of each term. The Acting Mayor is vested with all of the powers and charged with the performance of all of the duties of the Mayor at all times, places, and events whenever the Mayor is unable to act.
