Youth Fishing - Age 15 & under

Willow Springs Pond located between South 9th and South 11th Street.  Pond is stocked by the Department of Wildlife.

Lake Ponca Park Youth Fishing Ponds are located 1/2 mile East of Kygar on L.A. Cann Drive, providing a peaceful place to for kids to fish.


Youth age 15 and under are exempt from purchasing state or local fishing licenses.  A youth Fishing Derby is sponsored annually by the Park and Recreation Department and Quality Deer Management, Ltd.   The youth Fishing Derby is held at Lake Ponca Park Youth Fishing Ponds.


The Park and Recreation Department and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife provide youth fishing clinics each summer.  Dates and locations of these clinics are announced ahead of time.  Department of Wildlife staff provide the youth with instruction on fishing safety, casting, knot tying and the opportunity to fish with help from staff.  This is a great opportunity for youth to become acquainted with fishing.

June 17, 2008     9:00 a.m. until Noon                   Youth Fishing Clinic Marland Mansion Pond.

July 30, 2008     9:00 a.m. until Noon         Youth Fishing Clinic Marland Mansion Pond.

Lake Ponca Fishing Regulations

Only those persons with a current STATE and CITY license may fish at Lake Ponca.   Any person exempt from a state license may qualify to be exempt from the city fishing license requirement.


Oklahoma and Texas residents born prior to 1 Jan 1923 are exempt from license requirements.  If born on or after this date, these persons must possess a senior citizens license from their state.   Applications for Oklahoma residents are available at the Lake Patrol office.


Oklahoma and Texas residents age 64 and older, born on or after 1 Jan 1923, may purchase a lifetime senior citizen's fishing permit for Lake Ponca.  Residents from other state pay normal fees.


Any person under age sixteen is exempt from fishing license requirements.


Annual fishing licenses (State and City), run calendar year, covering January through December.  The Park and Recreation office sells City licenses only, NOT state licenses.  Daily fishing licenses are available at the boat ramps.


If you fish from a boat, remember, you must have a current State and City boat license.


Fishing is not permitted 8 am to sunset in the designated skiing area of West Lake Ponca during ski season, May-Sept.


The use of nets or traps for fishing is prohibited, as are throw lines, trout and limb lines, jug lines or similar devices. 


The dumping of bait, trash or similar refuse into Lake Ponca is prohibited.


Size and bag limits, for Lake Ponca, are the same as the State, except as follows:

1)      Creel limit is six (6) fish, largemouth.  Largemouth minimum length is 15 inches.

2)      Creel daily limit white bass and striped bass hybrids is five (5) of which only two (2) may be twenty-five (25) inches or longer.

3)      Walleye and Saugeye minimum length is eighteen (18) inches.  Total daily limit is five (5).


When a husband and wife or children under age 16 are fishing on an annual family permit, only one (1) bag limit  per permit is authorized,


Only artificial lures, live and fresh bait may be used for fishing. Stink bait is not allowed!!


Tube fishing is permitted, but not in the designated skiing area, during hours of skiing (8 am to sunset).
